Areas of Expertise

 

Huw specialises in Criminal Litigation and advocacy. He has been qualified for over 38 years and has extensive expertise in serious crime and fraud. He has as worked with experts in the following fields: DNA, blood distribution, pathology, identification – parades and facial mapping, guns, bullets, firearms residue, explosives, mobile phones, forensic psychology and psychiatry, fibres, drugs, inquests, navigation, accountancy, professional ethics, biology, documents – counterfeit and ESDA, asset tracing, police procedures and documentation, seizures under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (POCA), continuity of transmission of exhibits, voice analysis, fingerprints, public immunity and disclosure, confiscation, material, packaging and geology.

 

Huw is a trial advocate in relation to all types of offence. He also represents members of the armed forces and their families at Courts Martial and company directors at Companies House proceedings in the Magistrates Court.

 

He has as contributed numerous articles to legal journals on housing, employment and consumer credit legislation.

 

Recent Cases

 

Huw recently concluded defence of mother accused of murdering  her son; sucessfully defended a landlord accused of murdering his tenant and film director accused of sexual offences.

 

Successfully defended the financial director of Wickes plc in one of the largest Serious Fraud cases ever to be brought. Trial lasted 10 months and resulted in acquittal which was widely reported on television and in the national press.

 

Interests

 

Huw is a keen sailor (racing high performance sailing dinghies and small keelboats); a PADI advanced open water diver. He is also a former chairman of the UK Fireball Association. Huw is a member of management committees of several voluntary organisations.
